As a fellow Expat I know how hard it can be living in a foreign country.
I was born and raised in Switzerland with a Greek background and I’ve always wanted to live abroad since I was a child. My dream came true in 2006 when I moved to Australia to live with my husband who is from Sydney.
However, it wasn’t always easy and it wasn’t how I had anticipated the experience. I already lived in Sydney for 1 year in 2001 as an overseas student, but this time around was different, because the second move was permanent.
After arriving to my new home abroad, I felt excited for the new opportunity ahead of me and also sad for leaving my family and friends behind. I had mixed feelings and I went through a roller coaster of emotions.
After my excitement started to fade, reality hit me and my feelings of guilt and grief started to intensify. Feeling guilty for having hurt my family and grief for having given up my life back home and missing out on spending time with them. I started appreciating the small things back home that I realised how much I missed after having moved away. Feeling lost, confused and out of place.
Becoming a mum and having 2 kids away from my family, away from home was another big struggle that triggered a desire in me for stability and my search for true belonging.
Through my life experience as an expat for the past 15 years, I have learned how to overcome those challenges in a foreign country. A foreign country that it once was, is now my home I love and live the life of my dreams.
Through my personal transformation abroad it has become my purpose and my mission to support and guide expat women like you through the challenging times living in a foreign country. Cope with homesickness, loneliness and the affect on your identity.
I am committed to helping you break free from feeling homesick and thrive through times of change so that you can start living and loving your life abroad.
I would love to hear from you. Reach out to me and let me know how I can support you.
With love,
Xanthi xx
